The single best source for finding grant opportunities is the government site at www.grants.gov . There are four ways to search for grants on this website. The first way is a basic search. This enables you to search by a keyword, funding opportunity number, or CFDA number. The CFDA stands for Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance. This number and the funding opportunity number are used for specific grants.

The online Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance gives you access to a database of all Federal programs available to State and local governments (including the District of Columbia); federally -recognized Indian tribal governments; Territories (and possessions) of the United States; domestic public, quasi-public, and private profit and nonprofit organizations and institutions; specialized groups; and individuals. After you find the program you want, contact the office that administers the program  and find out how to apply.

GovBenefits.gov helps citizens access government benefit eligibility information through a free, confidential, and easy-to-use online screening tool. After answering some basic questions, the user receives a customized report listing the benefit programs for which the user, or person for whom he or she is entering information, may be eligible.
